Biography
Dr. Yang is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Technology, as well as the Institute for Network Sciences and Cyberspace at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He got his Master degree and Ph.D. both in the Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University in 1992 and 2003 respectively. Prof. Yang was the director of the Network Operation Center (NOC) of CERNET (China Education and Research Network) from 1994 to 1999. Prof. Yang was a visiting professor in George Mason University, USA and a Member of Technical Staff (MTS) in the Networking Department of Bell Lab, Lucent Technologies, Murray Hill, NJ, USA in 1999 and Jun. 2000 (to June 2001), respectively. He has been the head of the Division of Network Operation and Management Technology, Institute for Network Sciences and Cyberspace, Tsinghua University, since 2004. He is now the director of the Academic Committee of the Institute, chief scientist of the Network Applications and Security Research Team, director of the Network Management and Measurement Technology Laboratory, and member of the Computer Science Degree Committee.
Prof. Yang undertook and finished more than 30 all kinds of projects, including projects from the National High-Tech Research and Development Plan of China (863), the National Basic Research Program of China (973), the National Science and Technology Supporting Plan of China, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, et al. He has co-authored more than 200 technical research papers, held more than 50 granted patents, registered over 40 software copyrights and one software product (network management system); published 4 academic monographs in network management, Internet measurement, and cybersecurity.
From March 1994, as a key member, he participated in the planning, design, and construction of China's first nation-wide internet—China Education and Research Network (CERNET), and then served as the Director of the Network Operations Center (NOC) and was long responsible for the operation and management of CERNET. Since July 2002, he played a key role in the preliminary research, planning, management, and design of the “China Next Generation Internet(CNGI)”project, especially in the construction of one of the Core Network, CNGI-CERNET2.
He has been serving as an editorial board member for the International Journal of Network Management (IJNM), published by John Wiley & Sons, since 2012; and the IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management (TNSM) since 2014.
Prof. Yang achieved a lot of Professional awards, including awards of the Advancement of Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education, awards of the National Advancement of Science and Technology, and the special Prize of Advancement of Science and Technology by Ministry of Electronics, et al.
He was also the recipient of First Prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress award, the recipient of First Prize of the China Institute of Electronics Technology Invention award, the recipient of Second Prize of the China Institute of Communications Science and Technology Progress award, and the recipient of the Okawa Foundation Research Grant. He was Awarded the Distinguished Paper Award at one of the top 4 international conferences in cybersecurity-- Network and Distributed System Security Symposium (NDSS’2023).
